Whispers of Christ

Learning to listen to the still small voice.

Creation Preparation

As I was going to begin my devotions, I realized that I really didn’t know where to start or what to read. I finished a Bible study last week, like the ones you buy online, and decided to stop buying them and just start studying the Bible on my own.

This being said, I have been through a bible school, granted I didn’t finish, but I am by no means a scholar as the world knows it. So, after a bit of fumbling around on the bible app on my phone, I decided to start at the beginning of the bible. I’ve never read it back to front and thought that now would be as good a time as any to start. My goal – who is God and what does this tell me about him? I want to discover what the word says about his character. I want to share what I learned.

Reference: Genesis 1-2:3

  1. God is Powerful –

This is a bit of a no brainer when you are reading about creation. But really think about this point. He created everything “Ex Nihilo”. Ex Nihilo is Latin for creating something out of nothing. I can’t do that. Sure – give me some yarn, fabric, or flour and I can create something but from nothing. It won’t happen. That, my friends, is power. He not only created something from it but something as incredible as the universe we sit in. more grains of sand than we can count or stars in the sky.

  • God likes Order –

Everything that God created had a system. When you look at the way he created the world you find that out. He created the world in a specific order. Universe, Day and Night, Land and Seas, and then the inhabitants. There is also a hierarchy in place: God > Man > Animals > Earth. He always builds from the ground up!

  • God is Intentional –

I realize that this sounds very similar to being a God of order but it’s not. You can have a system and not be intentional. He took the time to think about what each inhabitant would need to be successful and created the world to provide that. How often have we decided to take a step and then realize we were unprepared? Example – sometimes when I go to cook, I get started and then realize, Hey! I’m out of a certain herb. He didn’t have that.

I love this point because it really showed me that he is trustworthy. He will not place us in a location that he has not prepared for us or us for. He will always have a plan and preparation in place, which is why we can trust him.

  • God creates a Balance –

When you look at how he creates things, there is a natural balance. Now don’t go getting all woo-woo on me; just really look at it. He creates Heavens and Earth, Fish and Field, Man and Woman. This not only speaks to diversity that he loves but also speaks to his character. Many times, we talk about God being merciful and loving. He is – he really is, and creation proves that. But it also proves that he is balanced, and his character must be that way too. Remember is merciful and loving, but he is also just and a warrior. There is duality to his character, and you can see that flow through creation.

  • God is Relational –

Elohim (“God” is plural) is the name that is used in Genesis. This refers to there being multiple people present at creation. I know there is some speculation as to if it’s angels, but I truly believe it’s him talking to the Son and the Holy Spirit.

You can also see his relational being when you look at the creation of animals and man. He always makes them in pairs. They are never created alone. This points to a God who values relationships.

It’s a lot to think about and take in but I’m praising God that he took the time to create a place that is special for me. That he wants a relationship with me. That I can trust him. I hope you find the same! Blessings!
